Letting doctors pick and choose patients will likely result in those with complicated illnesses being unable to get care based on the present insurance reimbursement policies of many medical insurers. Many doctors today do this anyway by finding something wrong in another specialist's field and simply referring the patient. That's what happened to me over and over -- sometimes being referred back to the original doctor. I'm now disabled and broke on SSDI. No diagnosis, no treatment because each specialist did a test that resulted in a positive finding in another specialist's field.

This case sounds too funny to be true! Unfortunately, such cases seem to diminish those of patients with legitimate gripes against the medical establishment. During a 16-hour visit to the ER, I witnessed an overwhelming perception of patients as crazy people until proven otherwise by doctors who couldn't readily determine a cause for a patient's complaint. I was there over concerns of internal bleeding. Even though tests showed marked dehydration and a low red blood cell count, I was eventually sent home with a note to have my house checked for mold. As a result of not being treated, I became disabled and am now on SSDI and Medicare.
